This week at the Android Builder’s Summit in San Francisco, we introduced an industry-first software delivery solution that addresses the big challenges Android™ device manufacturers face as they look to release products to market faster and faster while maintaining high quality.

With more than a million new Android devices activated each day, the Android market is quite literally exploding. Android is being leveraged across all verticals – aerospace, automotive, consumer products, medical, mobile and others – to enable new functionality and deliver a more satisfying user experience. Unfortunately, adding functionality and enhancing the user experience usually requires increasingly complex software.

To stay ahead in the Android market, manufacturers must differentiate their offerings with high quality, highly usable value-add software. Unfortunately, releasing such complex and sophisticated software for the various Android OS versions and product variants is an extremely involved and time-consuming process that, if rushed, can result in poor quality.

In January, we conducted a survey of more than 350 embedded and Android software device delivery professionals to learn more about the challenges that they face. We learned that overwhelmingly, these professionals are struggling with increasingly complex software releases, poor quality and time-to-market issues. In fact, over 70 of our survey respondents indicated that long release builds and testing cycles were slowing their delivery release cycles. The challenge for Android device manufacturers is determining how to shorten time-to-market in a scalable way, without sacrificing quality.
